ABOUT ABOUT

Please join Bexar Audubon Society and San Antonio Audubon Society for our annual fall program at the San Antonio Zoo.

The event this year will be different: Due to health concerns we will not gather together in person at the Zoo Beastro for dinner and the program. Instead, we will enjoy a short social time and watch the program via the Bexar Audubon Zoom Room from the comfort and safety of our own home with a beverage of our choice.

But the program is still FANTASTIC. This year we are delighted to welcome Dr. Andy Gluesenkamp, Conservation Director at the San Antonio Zoo, who will tell us all about efforts to Bring Back the Beloved Texas Horned Lizard. They’re on our license plates. They’re our school mascots. They’re our state reptile. But when was the last time you saw a "horny toad" in the wild? The disappearance of Texas’s most beloved critter and the desperate attempts to save it makes a fascinating story. According to Dr. Gluesenkamp, “I really don’t know if there’s a bottom to the depth of affection people have for these lizards, It’s not just lizard nerds; it’s not just outdoorsy people. People just love these things.” And who wouldn't?

Tickets are just $5 per person. All proceeds from this program will be donated to our friends at the San Antonio Zoo, who have been so generous in their partnership with Audubon through the years, and will support the Zoo's Center for Conservation and Research. In return for your donation, you will receive a link for registration for the Zoom meeting on Thursday, November 5, 2020. Social time is 6:30-7:00 (wear a "horny toad" shirt or hat and bring your favorite "horny toad" stories); program starts at 7:00 with plenty of time for questions and answers.

Please note: Attendance involves two steps:

1. Donate to reserve your ticket to the event.

2. Register to receive your admission link to the program on Zoom.
